Here is pastor Tim’s article which appeared in the Evening Leader on Tuesday, Sept 3, 2024..
July 21, 2024. That was the date that President Biden announced he was withdrawing from the race for the next presidential election. That same day, Kamala Harris was put in as the Democratic nominee. As the current Vice President, that is exactly what I would have expected to happen. I am writing this article on August 28, which means that Biden announced he was not running in the next campaign 39 days ago. In those 39 days, candidate Kamala Harris has not been interviewed by anyone.
No one has asked her any policy questions, no one has asked her about her role in the Biden-Harris administration, and no one has asked her anything about what is currently going on in the White House. Biden dropped out of the campaign for the next presidency, but he is still president until January. How is that going? I would like to hear from my Vice President as to what is happening in this transition period because there does not seem to be much transparency. I am sure a lot is happening, but no one seems to want to talk about what is happening.
This situation is difficult because Harris is the Democratic nominee even though she did not win a single presidential primary in any State. In the Democratic Presidential Primary, Biden won 3,904 delegates. Someone named Dean Philips won 5 and another person named Jason Palmer won 3. 37 delegates were uncommitted. That accounts for all of the Democratic primaries held across the country. There is a name missing here: Kamala Harris. She and I have won the exact same number of delegates in the current presidential primary.
Since she was the Vice President on the ticket, do those delegates automatically transfer from Biden to her? I honestly don’t know the rules about that, but the bottom line is, those delegates were cast for Biden not Harris. I think the American people, regardless of their political leaning, deserve to get to know Harris. I know everyone who works in the White House was just shocked to learn that Biden just suddenly deteriorated right before our very eyes. Apparently no one was aware he was having trouble and him dropping out of the race took those White House staffers by surprise.
However, 39 days of no interviews or any chance for anyone to push Harris on her policies seems to be a bit much. It seems disrespectful to the American People for neither her nor her administration to answer any questions at all. Some states are less than 2 weeks away from the start of early voting. This is starting to feel like they are keeping something from us in a great stall tactic. Contrast this with Donald Trump. He has been shot and has been indicted with more felonies than I can keep track of. Love him or hate him, he has been out there answering questions regardless of everything else going on. I find it hard to believe that nothing could be set up for Harris to answer questions for 39 days, especially since she is not currently the president because that is Joe Biden. I don’t want to hear that a candidate for public office does not have time to publicly answer questions.
I know that both sides are negotiating to have a debate between Trump and Harris. I am going to be honest with you, we will not get to know either candidate through a debate. I am all for them debating with each other, but that is not a venue where you learn much more than the political leaning of the moderator. I want to hear the candidates talk, particularly Harris. There are a lot of questions I would like to hear her answer about her time in politics and her time serving alongside Joe Biden. This is not a gotcha, this is me wanting her to take the opportunity to defend her record. This is nothing less than I would want from any candidate regardless of political affiliation.
Speaking just for myself, 100% of the opinion that I have about Harris I have gotten from hearsay. If you are honest, you will admit the same is true for you. And depending on who you are listening to, she is either the savior of our country or she is a possible antichrist from the book of Revelation. Spoiler alert, she is neither of those things. I want her to have a chance to define who she is and what she wants to do and I want her to have the chance to do that without having to fend off Trump in a debate setting. I want her to debate Trump but I do not want that to be her first extended public interview.
It is my opinion that we are entitled to hear from both candidates for president. To not hear from them feels like hiring someone you know nothing about for a job. That is ridiculous. She should have had a press conference the day Biden dropped out of the race. 39 days is too long, and my hope is that we will not have to wait much longer to hear Harris answer questions in a live public setting.
